Originally the published price was £1.77, for december but the ACTUAL price is £3.99
Clopidogrel 75mg is Category A
In this month's Drug Tariff (December 2009) Clopidogrel 75mg where the salt is not stated has become category A, .
They are:
Clopidogrel Besilate 75 mg
Clopidogrel Hydrochloride 75mg
Prescriptions will be reimbursed at the part VIII price £33.75 for 30 (less discount abatement) which is a weighted average of the prices from four suppliers and manufacturers. There is no requirement for any endorsement (neither manufacturer nor pack size).
However, prescriptions for Clopidogrel hydrogen sulphate 75mg must be endorsed. This is treated as a non part VIII generic and prescription forms will be returned if not endorsed. There currently is only one brand of this salt, Plavix. If the prescription is endorsed Plavix the reimbursement will be for the Plavix list price (less discount abatement). This brand is only available in packs of 30. Clopidogrel 300mg remains Category C with Plavix as the only brand.
