Novartis priority supply procedure

DDA negotiates bulk ordering for patients

Dr Allan Tennant reports

5th of February 2010

As you are most certainly aware there is a significant problem obtaining Letrozole (Femara) from wholesalers.

To help customers to obtain stock Novartis the manufacturers have announced a Patient Priority Supply Procedure.

They have told the DDA that the day that their product arrives at the wholesaler it is all going straight out, so there is no stock. It is alleged that some pharmacies are ordering much more than they need.

Because our members were finding it difficult to obtain stock the DDA, in the guise of Dr David Baker and Jeff Lee met yesterday with Novartis.

The priority supply procedure works like this. You fax the patients' anonymised FP10s to Novartis, and they record the FP10's unique number. They then send the product directly to the surgery for you to dispense to your patient.

Novartis have kindly agreed with the DDA, that you can bundle all the FP10s for your patients at the beginning of the month, they will send the whole month's stock, so that you have it on your shelves and do not have to order single lots of product each time the patient requests it. This obviously means that there is no delay to your patient obtaining this very important medication. This also saves you time and effort.

Novartis products are delivered by AAH and Alliance.
