In England from 1 April 2017, the prescription charge will increase by 20p to £8.60 for each medicine or appliance dispensed.

The three-month pre payment certificate remains at £29.10, and the annual PPC at £104. These become cost-effective for patients requiring four or more prescriptions in three months or 13 or more prescriptions a year.

Existing arrangements for prescription charge exemptions will remain in place, principally covering those with certain medical conditions like cancer, epilepsy and diabetes, pregnant women and new mothers, children under 16 and anyone over 60, and those on a low income.

A poster highlighting the new charge for display in dispensaries is available in the DDA member resources section of this website.
