Three DDA members have received outstanding ratings
Dispensary services have contributed to four outstanding ratings for DDA member the Ramsbury & Wanborough surgery in Marlborough, Wiltshire, on key lines of enquiry (KLOEs) for effectiveness, caring, responsiveness and quality of leadership. In the responsive KLOE, inspectors applauded the practice’s dispensary service providing weekly or monthly blister packs, and large print labels.
For effectiveness, inspectors noted evidence of dispensary staff qualifications and regular competence assessments, while for the caring KLOE, the practice demonstrated that it had processes in place to cater for a confidential interaction including with dispensary staff.
Medicines management was safe, and advice was in line with current national guidance. Patients’ health was monitored in relation to the use of medicines and followed up on appropriately. Patients were involved in regular reviews of their medicines.
The East Leake Medical Group near Loughborough in Leicestershire, has been awarded three outstanding ratings for the effective, responsiveness and well-led KLOEs.
For effectiveness, the practice demonstrated dispensary staff training and regular competence checks.
For responsiveness, blister packs and large print labels for patients were also noted, while for the well-led KLOE, inspectors noted the practice’s registration for the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme (DSQS).
At the health centre in Mullion, Helston, Cornwall, dispensary services contributed to two outstanding ratings for caring and responsiveness.
For responsiveness, inspectors applauded the use of blister packs for older patients with memory problems, and the practice of liaising with local pharmacies to provide this service for non-dispensing patients.
Inspectors also noted the practice’s participation in the Dispensing Services
Quality Scheme (DSQS), and its commitment to dispensary training and competence checks.
