This reflects the 0.262 per cent increase in dispensing volume delivered during 2016-17, and compared to 2015-16.

Changes in the dispensing fee are made in light of changing dispensing volumes, to deliver the total ‘dispensing fee’ envelope as agreed between the BMA General Practitioners Committee, NHS Employers, the Department of Health in England and the Welsh Government.

The October decrease follows the average decrease in dispensing fees of 3.8 per cent announced April 2017.
