Dispensing practices pay 14 per cent more on business costs than non-dispensing GPs

Earnings increment only 5.8 per cent more

The GP Earnings and expenses estimates 2019/20 report shows the additional employee, business and drug costs of running a dispensing practice.

The report shows that dispensing GPs pay, on average 14 per cent more for office/general business running costs, 76 per cent more in interest, and 6 per cent more for employees than non-dispensing practices

Earnings wise, GMS dispensing contractors in England earn 4.2 per cent more than their non-dispensing colleagues. In Scotland, the increment is 10 per cent and in Wales, 3.4 per cent. Specific figures are given below:

  • England GMS dispensing contractors £126,300 vs £121,200 (all practice types) before tax
  • Scotland: £116,700: £105,800
  • Wales: £112,600: £108,800
