NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE&I) have issued a letter to provide advice on ordering appropriate flu vaccines for the 2020/21 season.

According to the advice, the following vaccines should be offered:

Patients aged 65 years and over

  • Adjuvanted trivalent vaccine (aTIV)
  • If aTIV is not available, quadrivalent influenza cell-culture vaccine (QIVc) is also suitable for use in this age group.

In 2020-21, the high-dose trivalent vaccine (TIV-HD) has not been commissioned by the NHS due to the higher list price for 2020/21.

Patients aged 18 years to under 65 years in an at-risk group
QIVc in the first instance and where necessary, quadrivalent influenza egg-culture vaccine (QIVe), subject to the JCVI considerations outlined in the NHSE&I letter.

Read the letter and begin ordering.
