DDA member The Coggeshall Surgery has been rated outstanding on four measures, and good for safety by the CQC.
The practice was applauded for establishing a good relationship with the local pharmacy for those patients the practice did not dispense for, to provide home deliveries and single dose medicine boxes.
Inspectors also commended the practice for being responsive to the needs of older patients, who are offered home visits, urgent appointments if there are enhanced needs and complex medical issues.
Safe and effective care is also provided by Welsh DDA member Arwystli Medical Practice in Llanidloes, Powys, according to a report by the Healthcare Inspectorate Wales.
Inspectors found that patients were fully aware of the reasons why they were taking prescribed medication and that medication was reviewed annually. Inspectors noted how advice from a local pharmacist had supported medicines management by the practice, including the dispensary. Among the recommendations for improvement, inspectors advised the practice to establish regular multidisciplinary meetings including the dispensary team, to discuss Significant Event Analysis.
Also rated outstanding for their caring, responsiveness and quality of its leadership are the following dispensing practices:
However, rated inadequate is the non DDA member dispensing Overseal Surgery in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, due to a lack of clinical oversight in the dispensary and a catalogue of errors and omissions relating to the management of the dispensary.
