The DDA has secured the following advice for practices having difficulty accessing an NHS England authorised witness for CD destruction.

NHS England staff shortages and police CD Liaison Officer capacity constraints have resulted in backlogs of witnessed CD destructions.

NHS England suggests that practices in difficulty may follow these suggestions:

  • If the practice is struggling for space, they should mention this on the request for supervised destruction, as they can be prioritised over other requests
  • Practices can apply to nominate a registered healthcare profession to act as their Authorised Witness and witness the destruction of CD items (email:[email protected])
  • The PCN is able to nominate a clinical pharmacist for longer periods to act as an Authorised Witness.
