Achieving more ‘holistic’ primary care is one of the priority ambitions of the Welsh GP regulator, the new operational plan for Welsh regulation reveals.

The Healthcare Inspectorate Wales plan pledges to develop a new methodology for onsite GP inspections, which explore the wider primary care provision that GPs are part of in order to provide patient care. The aim is to achieve a more holistic understanding of the primary care system and impact on patients, the regulator says.

In its first year of the new operational focus there will be up to 27 GP inspections, and GPs will be given opportunities to comment on the new inspection model.
