Alert: Arixtra solution for injection, pre-filled syringes

Viatris Products has warned of a defect affecting all batches of Arixtra solution for injection, pre-filled syringes.

Arixtra 1.5 mg/0.3 ml, 2.5 mg/0.5 ml, 5 mg/0.4 ml, 7.5 mg/0.6 ml solution and 10 mg/0.8 ml solutions for injection, pre-filled syringes, within expiry date, are affected.

The quality defect is related to oxidation of the syringe needle and is estimated to be very rare. As Arixtra is considered critical to the continued supply of this medication, it is not being recalled from the market.

Dispensers are asked to carefully inspect all Arixtra pre-filled syringes for discolouration. Affected product should be returned to your supplier using your supplier’s approved process.

Patients and caregivers should be asked to look for discolouration at the needle base and return affected product to their dispensary.
