DDA lobbies for a Welsh dispensing contract in Senedd inquiry

A new Wales-specific dispensing contract, independent of English negotiations, based on capitation-based funding is among the recommendations to Welsh politicians from DDA Wales.

The new contract is just one of 10 recommendations to the Senedd Health and Social Care Committee as part of its inquiry, The Future of General Practice in Wales.

Presented by DDA Welsh representative Dr Fiona Porter, the other recommendations include:

  • an emergency stabilisation payment for dispensing GP practices
  • funding uplift to cover 2025 operating costs, staffing levels, and overheads
  • reformed discount abatement (Clawback) system
  • access to the Discount Not Deducted (DND) concession
  • uplift of the DSQS payment to £4.47, indexed annually to inflation or DDRB recommendations
  • full funding for Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) functionality, and other dispensing IT
  • longer prescribing intervals and efficiency measures without financial penalty
  • Welsh representation in dispensing negotiations.

The recommendations are presented in the document, Addressing The Disparities
