DDA24: Overcoming adversity in the dispensary

At the DDA 24 conference, Queen Camel Medical Centre GP Dr Daniel Edmonds presented a case study of a new dispensary build.

In a presentation entitled, Overcoming Adversity in Our Dispensary, Dr Edmonds outlined the five-year process to build an extension to the surgery for a new dispensary.

He explained that the aim was to increase capacity for increasing dispensing volumes, as well as improve morale and optimise profitability. Technology used in the build include Proscript electronic dispensing, and robots including Willach dispensing and Pharmself collection robots.

In questions, Dr Edmonds said that around10,000 items was the minimum dispensing volume for the robot model installed, and that for tax purposes it could be treated as a capital asset. Staff were reassured that the robot would not replace human staff.
