September 27th 2024
Despite statin use, CV risk remains a challenge, said Drs Sanjay Bhandari and Balraj Mavi in the DDA conference presentation, Reducing CV events in secondary prevention.
In the presentation, the two doctors presented the results of a trial into the efficacy of icosapent ethyl (Vazkepa) therapy in patients at increased CV risk already being treated with statins.
There was also a look at the use of the drug in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Cardiovascular disease is recognised as the single biggest area where the NHS can reduce mortality over the next five years.
As the limits of benefit from currently available therapies are reached, it will be important to investigate further approaches to managing the remaining CV risk.
