DDA25: NHSBSA sets out submissions best practice

The NHSBSA presentation to the DDA conference took delegates through best practice in specific areas:

• FP34D Submission Document
• Submitting your account
• Avoiding wrong group movements
• Endorsing – Best practice
• Completing your FP34D (Appendix)
• Avoiding referred back submissions and resubmitted items
• Common mistakes with appliances.

Representing NHSBSA, Phil Edwards, head of pharmaceutical services & principal pharmacist and Mark Gibbon, business engagement lead told the DDA conference audience that in July 2025, NHSBSA processed over 102 million items, and that items sent via the Electronic Prescription Service items accounted for 91.28 per cent of the total.

Edwards described the EPS a  as a “game-changer” for the NHSBSA in its presentation entitled: An overview of NHS Prescription Services.

In the same month GP dispensers submitted around 470,210 EPS scripts. Some 57 dispensaries are now live with the EPS, accounting for 7.65 per cent.

Just under 9.5 million scripts submitted to the NHSBSA are paper.
