June 9th 2023
DHSC has confirmed that dispensing practices with wholesaler licences for own pharmacy use are exempt from data collection requirements.
In 2018, the Health Service Products (Provision and Disclosure of Information) Regulations 2018 introduced additional information disclosure requirements into NHS dispensing. Initially, dispensing practices were included within the record-keeping requirements. However, the DDA secured an exemption, based on the internal nature of dispensing practice 'wholesaling'.
Recently, an exempt dispensing practice was contacted to submit records according to these disclosure regulations. However, following intervention by the DDA, the NHS BSA has confirmed that the exemption for dispensing practices applies.
Any practices who are approached to fulfil the terms of the disclosure regulations should contact the DDA office for support.
