Final April concessions published

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has updated its initial list of price concessions for April 2024 in a final update.

From April 2024, a new system of concession prices is in effect. This seeks to recover excess retained margins by pharmacies through concession prices rather than Category M.

From April to June 2024, DHSC will be seeking to recover c£5.4m per month from the community pharmacy sector.

Although the retained margin recovery is targeted at pharmacies, reductions in concession prices also affect dispensing GPs and raises the likelihood of dispensing at a loss.

All dispensing GPs are advised to contact their MPs about the need for greater financial stability in dispensing.  Please view the DDA’s political lobby documents for supporting resources.

DDA members can view the full April concessions by visiting the online library of drug tariff updates.
