Government commits to rural-proofed health services

The Government has committed to create a more equitable healthcare system that "leaves no person or community behind", health minister Ashley Dalton (West Lancashire) has said in Parliament.

In response to a parliamentary question from Tony Vaughan (Lab, Folkestone and Hythe) over access to health in rural areas, Dalton said that the Government recognises the health inequalities faced by rural communities in England and was working to “develop approaches that address these inequalities”.

The Government has also confirmed that individual departments take responsibility for rural proofing, while DEFRA takes an overarching role.
