Kinnock to oversee primary care

Health minister Stephen Kinnock is to be responsible for primary care, with general practice, pharmacy, eye care and dentistry included in his ministerial portfolio.

His other responsibilities will include community health, adult social care, hospital and community discharge, health and social care integration, dementia, end of life and palliative care, and disabilities. Karin Smyth is the health minister for secondary care. Included in her portfolio are medicines regulation,pricing and supply as well as supply threats and disruption. She also has been given oversight of NHS agencies including NHS Business Services Authority, NHS England, the MHRA, and the NHS Counter Fraud Authority.

Junior minister Andrew Gwynne has responsibilities around health protection, health improvement and major and long-term conditions. Meanwhile, Baroness Merron is responsible for patient safety and experience, mental health, women’s health, research and life sciences, and statutory instruments.
