June 14th 2024
A Community Pharmacist Prescribing Service, granting more pharmacists independent prescribing rights is a key pledge within the Labour party election manifesto.
The plan for the NHS also pledges to allow other professionals, such as opticians, to make direct referrals to specialist services or tests, as well as expanding self-referral routes where appropriate.
The manifesto makes no mention of rurality. However, it does voice plans to trial Neighbourhood Health Centres, which bring together existing services such as family doctors, district nurses, care workers, physiotherapists, palliative care, and mental health specialists under one roof.
