Medicines prices and supply - the future

There is currently a two-pronged pressure on the NHS to pay more for its drugs.

The first comes from the pharma industry itself, which is pushing to raise the spending growth cap on the Voluntary Scheme for Branded Medicines Pricing, Access and Growth (VPAG) – a scheme that shelters the NHS from very large medicines price increases.

The second comes from trade negotiations with the USA, in which the UK has had to sign up to “endeavour to improve the overall environment for pharmaceutical companies operating in the United Kingdom”.
