NHS BSA has published guidance on disallowed items in its latest Hints and Tips newsletter.
The April (issue 51) edition of Hints and Tips explains that a high percentage of disallowed items are those ordered by dentists or community nurse prescribers which are not listed in their respective drug formularies or are an appliance or chemical reagent that is not listed in Part IX of the Drug Tariff.
To help reduce the number of times this happens, NHS BSA has published a guidance document on some of the most common disallowed items and the reasons they were Disallowed.
Other notices in the newsletter include a reminder to encourage your patients to check that they’re entitled before claiming free prescriptions at www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/check and the Real Time Exemption Checking (RTEC).
There is also advice on the following:
- Submitting accounts to scanning sites
- Where patients can buy an HRT PPC.
