News on updated FP10s in latest BSA Hints & Tips

Information on updated FP10s to reflect the end of tax credits from Saturday 5 April is included in the latest Hints & Tips from NHS BSA.

New forms remove the reference to the tax credit exemption certificate.

Hints and Tips Issue 58 highlights that after this date patients who hold a tax credit exemption certificate will no longer receive automatic entitlement to free NHS prescriptions.

People receiving tax credits are being moved to Universal Credit. To continue being entitled to free NHS prescriptions, they must meet the Universal Credit criteria for help with health costs.

You can encourage patients to check that they are entitled to help with health costs before they claim. Patients can use the eligibility checker to find out what they could be entitled to. It usually takes three minutes to check.

Other news in the February newsletter include a reminder how to endorse items as not dispensed.

The publication also includes a report on the HRT prescribing, and notes that HRT PPCs can now be added to Apple Wallets.

The percentage of HRT items paid for at the point of dispensing for women aged 40 and over has halved, following the introduction of the HRT PPC. Latest data shows that the HRT PPC was used for 18 per cent of items. The report notes that the southwest has the highest number of women per 100 of population.

There are also reports on prescribing patterns for care home patients and the new ePACT2 Antimicrobial Stewardship Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) dashboard.

News for pharmacies include:

  • Pharmacy First - completing a supply within the Patient Group Direction (PGD)
  • Real Time Exemption Checking (RTEC) benefits
  • Latest 2023/24 Pharmacy Quality Scheme (PQS) data published
  • ePACT2 Antimicrobial Stewardship - Pharmacy First dashboard available now.
