DHSC has launched a six-month review of the Carr-Hill GP funding formula.
The review aims to identify a new allocation formula aligned to the Government’s 10 Year Health Plan.

The report makes reference to practices in Gardenstown, Aberdeenshire, the closure of which was described as “disastrous for rural communities”. The closure of Broadmayne Surgery in Dorset was also described as a “blow” for the village’s rural community, impacting many older people.
There is also reference to the chief medical officer’s report Health in an Ageing Society which calls for funding to be directed to rural areas where old people live.
A report informing the review states that the predominant factor determining closure is size, with practices with list sizes of around 2,740 most at risk.
