Scottish political chief underlines support for GP contractor model

Rural GP workforce remains a priority, parliament told

The Scottish Government has committed to supporting the independent contractor model.

In a debate in the Scottish Parliament,  Claire Baker (Mid Scotland and Fife) (Lab) was told that the Scottish Government remains committed to supporting general practice. Cabinet Secretary for NHS Recovery, Health and Social Care Michael Matheson added: “The independent contractor model is a key part of that.”

He said: ”Our policy prospectus commits us to sustaining investment through the primary care improvement fund and investing more in practices that service disadvantaged areas. We remain committed to… funding initiatives that we have in place to encourage GPs to work in rural areas.
