Wales looks to 'clustered' services in rural areas

Clustered services is the key to greater resilience in rural NHS services, Welsh health and social care secretary Jeremy Miles has said.

Speaking in the Welsh Parliament, Miles was challenged on the higher costs of running a surgery on split sites, where there are no other medical services nearby, as well in a very large geographical area.

Assembly Member Russell George (Con, Montgomeryshire) voiced concern that practices may hand their contracts back to the health board, bringing additional concerns and costs.

Miles said that the £23 million stabilisation payment would enable GP practices to address additional cost pressures.
