DDA congratulates Labour on election win
The DDA has congratulated the Labour party and its leader Sir Kier Starmer for their success in yesterday's election.
During the run-up to the election, the DDA actively promoted its
rural manifesto and received many pledges of support from parliamentary political candidates from all parties.
The DDA will actively and urgently seek dialogue with the new health team in Government once it is announced to communicate the pressing issues relating to rural proofing and the sustainability of rural general practice.
We continue to seek action from the new political health leads on the following issues:
Rural Proofing
- Medicines optimisation services: Rural patients to have equitable access to medicines services that support health and best use of medicines, irrespective of their proximity to access to a community pharmacy
- Full funding for NHS IT: Full NHS funding to recognise the benefits to patients, the practice and the NHS of NHS IT services such as the Electronic Prescription Service
- Local commissioning: Give local NHS organisations the freedom to commission services that rural people need
Sustainable Foundations
- A fair GP contract that recognises the increased costs of service deliver in rural areas
- A fair dispensary pay deal that rewards rural practices for meeting the increasing pharmaceutical needs of the rural ageing population
- NHS clinicians in the driving seat of NHS policy
