DDA updates TB dispenser training

The DDA has updated its dispenser training module on tuberculosis. 

Tuberculosis (TB) may feel like a disease of the past, but worldwide it is one of the top 10 causes of death. In 2023, an estimated 10.8 million people fell ill with TB worldwide, including 1.3m children. This resulted in 1.25m deaths across all age groups.

This training module, available free and exclusively to DDA members, aims to arm practice dispensary staff with knowledge of TB, including what it is, how it is treated, and how it can be prevented. Throughout this training, you will find various activities to help reinforce your learning. Ten multiple choice questions at the end will help you identify any areas needing a quick recap.

By the end of the training, dispensers will:

• Understand the different forms of TB and how it is transmitted
• Understand the factors that can increase the risk of contracting the infection
• Appreciate how TB presents and is diagnosed and treated
• Have insight into some of the issues surrounding treatment
• Be familiar with the UK vaccination categories for TB
