DDA24: CQC opens conference with inspection hints and tips

Medicines optimisation is a priority quality statement for GPs, and all inspections (unless specific follow ups) will include this, said Mary Collier, medicines manager, Care Quality Commission, medicines optimisation team, opening the conference programme of the 2024 DDA Conference.

She added that the key question inspections ask is what advantage the patient gets from using your dispensary.

In a keynote address to a packed conference hall, she suggested that prior information about the dispensary set up (branch locations, etc) will make the inspection smoother.

Her presentation covered key changes introduced by the CQC in its new assessment framework.

 Among these are that

  • more information may be requested up front to reduce time on site
  • quality statements replace KLOEs.

During questions from the audience, Collier acknowledged recovery priorities for the CQC including IT system failures and registration waits, She also revealed that a second Dash report would be published after the party conferences.
