DDA24: Look out for generics

Generics are one area where there are common themes of good and bad practice, the DDA Conference heard on Day One.

Presenting ‘Key Points to Maximise Dispensary Profitability’, Prad Savania, director of Dispensing Doctor Solutions said there was a large variation in dispensary profitability across its customer base, ranging from 30 per cent net profit to loss making.

He told the audience that generics were vital for profitability, yet, net pricing was often not visible and there could be poor awareness of available options. In addition, some practices did not operate systems for amending generics costing above Drug Tariff reimbursement.

During the presentation, he outlined key reports for accounting management, including Top Twenty by NIC and Personally Administered Items
