DDA25: PCN pharmacist - friend or foe?

“Dispensary teams are a force to be reckoned with. They are very close knit so the PCN clinical pharmacist has to fit in.”

That was the reflection of PCN Clinical Pharmacist Kenny Inman in his DDA 2025 conference presentation.

In his presentation, the North Riding Primary Care Network Lead Clinical Pharmacist outlined what a PCN pharmacist can be for dispensing practices. The role can include being:

• a link between (non-dispensing) clinician and dispensary team
• purveyors of knowledge of pharmacy and dispensing law
• a cog in the PCN machine
• provider of training or support
• creator of guidance or support materials
• liaison for external parties
• referral destination for dispensary patient queries.

Examples of work done by PCN pharmacists are:

• CD training
• dispensary manager and prescribing lead meetings
• MDS suitability
• profitability switches
• support with dispensary review outcomes.
