DDA26: Looking after the pennies

Small changes can make a big difference to your dispensary profitability, DDA Welsh Chair Dr Fiona Porter said in presentation to the DDA 2026 Conference, DM&D browser, amendments, endorsements and negating financial loss.

She explained: “A few pence per item can add up to thousands of pounds for your practice.”

In her presentation, she looked at tips for better profitability, reduced losses and smarter working, in nine areas:  

• Workflow wins
• Time savers
• Victory for VAT
• Best buying
• Prescribing original packs
• Stock smarter – stock rotation
• Easy endorsing
• DACs
• Blind buying and amending the prescription body.

Replying to a question about thresholds, she said the practice should set the policy for what losses are acceptable, given the time associated with amending a prescription.
