Dispensing GP clawback raised in Parliament

Dispensing GP clawback has been raised in Parliament.

In a debate on community pharmacies  Dr Luke Evans Hinckley and Bosworth (Con) described dispensing practices as “part of the real fabric of the community network”. He pointed out that for many patients, dispensing practices are “the primary point of access to medicines”.

Informed by the DDA, he told health minister Stephen Kinnock that the current clawback arrangements create inequalities compared with community pharmacies. He called on the minister to consider how clawback could be modernised to ensure equity.

He also asked the minister for further details on his previous promises to review NHS EMIS Web dispensing module funding.   

Kinnock responded by saying he could “absolutely commit” to providing more details on EMIS Web funding.

Responding to the wider debate, he said: “The NHS that we are building puts them front and centre of care in every community, whether on the local high street or as one of the more than 400 distance-selling pharmacies that can reach across the country, including rural areas.”
