GPC Wales has been mandated to negotiate a fully funded EPS in dispensing practice, and a new dispensing contract at last weekend’s Wales LMC conference.
The passed motions were presented by North Wales LMC. They were supported by a motion from Dyfed Powys, which called for dispensing doctors and their service to have equal recognition at all levels as a community pharmacy as an equally funded service. This motion was taken as a reference to the North Wales motion.
A motion relating to medicines shortages (North Wales) was also passed.
Addressing the conference, GPC Wales Chair Dr Gareth Oelmann announced a new practice finance survey to assess the costs of service delivery. He said: “We need a funding model that is flexible enough to address the needs of diverse communities across Wales—whether in rural or urban areas, among older populations, or for those with complex, long-term conditions.”
The title of the conference was "If not Now, When?" Key challenges facing GPs in Wales include a workforce crisis and the need to establish collaborative multi-disciplinary teams. Dr Oelmann said GPC Wales would seek an early and improved GMS contract in 25/26 and warned that should this support not be forthcoming, collective action would be considered.
