MPs pledge action on rural health equity

Equitable access to healthcare for rural residents has been identified as a top priority, according to MPs with an interest in rural services

At the inaugural meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Rural Services four additional areas were identified as key workstreams: 

  1. Fair funding across public services – fair funding not only for local authorities but also for other public services that support rural areas
  2. Affordable rural housing – improved access to truly affordable housing in rural areas
  3. Transport – enhanced rural transport
  4. Rural economic growth and skills development – supporting local talent and innovation.

At the meeting, Sarah Dyke, Liberal Democrat MP for Somerset, was voted as chair, Sam Rushworth, Labour MP for Bishop Auckland, as vice chair, Joe Morris, Labour MP for Hexham, as treasurer and Dr. Kieran Mullan, Conservative MP for Bexhill and Battle, as secretary.
