New minister joins the DHSC team

This weekend's Cabinet reshuffle sees the addition of Glasgow South West MP Dr Zubir Ahmed to the DHSC health ministerial team.

Before being elected to Parliament in 2024, Zubir was a transplant and vascular surgeon in Glasgow and has volunteered in Pakistan. He continues to practise medicine in Glasgow and maintains a medical licence.

On the vast majority of issues, Dr Ahmed has been seen to follow instructions from his party and vote the same way as other Labour MPs.

Until January 2025, he was a nember of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill Committee. His voting record shows he has consistently voted against allowing terminally ill people to be given assistance to end their life.

Stephen Kinnock currently retains the brief for NHS pharmacy and general practice.
