Pharmacists issue £108m/month invoice to DHSC

The NPA is issuing invoices for £108 million per month to the Department for Health and Social Care to highlight underpayment in pharmacy reimbursement.

National Pharmacy Association Chief Executive Paul Rees with Board Members Olivier Picard and Salim Jetha (pictured left-right) presented the invoice, saying that Government funding no longer covers medicine supplies, leaving pharmacies to subsidise the NHS.

According to the NPA, 10 pharmacies are closing a week due to underfunding.

Pharmacies are invited to calculate their own under funding, and generate their own invoice using a downloadable invoice generator with built in calculator based on NPA estimates.

The calculation is to multiply the average total number of items dispensed monthly by £1.20.

The NPA says that the £108m/mo figure merely restores funding to 2014 levels, after inflation.
