Prescription charges frozen in pre-Budget good news

Ahead of this week's Budget, the Chancellor has announced that NHS prescription charges will remain frozen next year at £9.90.

Three month and annual prescriptions prepayment certificates will also be frozen for 2026/27.

Released amid widespread reports of a 'bad news' Budget, the announcement is described as "firm action to tackle the cost of living" and "... to ensure all patients can receive the treatment they need". It comes as the Chancellor says the Budget will set out fair choices on the public’s priorities to cut NHS waiting lists, cut national debt and cut the cost of living.
