RPS opens prescription charge survey

Survey asks pharmacists for experience of cost pressures affecting medicine use

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society and Pharmacist Defence Association are asking pharmacists to complete a short survey about their experience of patients declining to have prescriptions dispensed because of the cost.

The survey is open to pharmacists who have practised in England within the last 12 months.

The RPS is a member of the Prescription Charges Coalition, which advocates the abolition of prescription charges for people with long-term conditions.

For its part, the professional pharmacy representative believes that prescription charges should be completely abolished. Read RPS policy on prescription charges.

Research published by the York Health Economics Consortium found that abolishing prescription charges for two long-term conditions Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis) and Parkinson’s - would save the NHS over £20 million a year.
