Inequitable access to all levels of palliative care and end-of-life care is particularly marked in rural areas, a new report concludes.
The report from the Commission on Palliative and End-of-Life Care concludes that bereaved people have shown deteriorating experiences of end-of-life care.
Among its recommendations, the Commission strongly recommends that dual accreditation in specialist palliative medicine is available for those training in general practice, and to allow accreditation of experience in general practice.
There should also be better access to patient data and more funding for research into palliative care.
Other groups suffering inequitable access to quality palliative care include people with non-cancer diagnoses, those who are socially deprived, those with dementia, LGBTQ+ and minority ethnic groups.
