Rural people are among those most in favour of prioritising easier access to community-based services over care in hospitals.
In the new Health Foundation report The public’s views on the future of the NHS in England 65 per cent of rural people would opt for community-based services such as GPs over care in hospital. This compares to a poll average of 60 per cent.
However, among the reasons for not increasing funding for primary care is the belief that GPs were overpaid - though this view was not widespread.
According to the Health Foundation, calls for fundamental reform to the NHS have grown louder in recent years, with a particular focus on changing how health care is funded. Some have suggested introducing additional charges for patients attending GP appointments and A&E.
