Scotland warns of post-Brexit impact on GP workforce

A lack of workers has brought rural health and social care systems in Scotland to their knees, the Scottish Parliament has heard in a debate on Brexit.

In the debate, Highlands and Islands MSP Ariane Burgess (Scottish Green) highlighted mental health services in rural areas. She said: “We are all well aware of the mental health challenges that affect our foresters, fishers and farmers, which often tragically result in suicide. There could be a different outcome if those people had access to local mental health support.”

During the debate, MSPs applauded the impact of the Scottish graduate entry medicine programme on the rural GP workforce.
