Scottish EPS pledges ethos of 'do with' not 'do to'

The ethos of development of the Digital Prescribing and Dispensing Pathways (DPDP) programme will be ‘do with’ rather than ‘do to’ – despite dispensing GPs being outside the initial scope of the project - NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland

(NES) have said.

In their winter DPDP newsletter, the organisations pledge that “overall success of the programme will depend largely on those impacted by the change, buying into it at an early stage".

The two organisations say their aim is to better understand the needs and views of key stakeholders: planned consultation involves prescribing GPs, community pharmacists, and stoma and appliances supplier representatives, nurses and care homes.

The newsletter states the advantages of electronic prescription transfer to GPs as removing unnecessary paper, batch signing prescriptions, and better oversight of dispensed medication, supporting ongoing prescribing and medication reviews. For dispensers, there is better workload management.
