DDA updates LRTI dispenser education

In general, a key differentiator between an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI) and a Lower Respiratory Tract Infection (LRTI) is that the latter usually last longer and they tend to be more serious in nature.

Indeed, acute coughs and LRTIs are the most common reason for sick leave. Like URTIs, lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) are more common in the winter months, peaking from January to March.

Throughout this training, updated for 2025, you will find various activities to help reinforce your learning. Ten, multiple choice questions at the end will help you identify any areas needing a quick recap. There is also a certificate of completion.

Aims

By the end of this module you will

  • Recognise the most common lower respiratory tract infections and their symptoms
  • Be aware of at-risk groups and potential complications
  • Be alert to the signs and symptoms that require further referral
  • Know which of these conditions involves contact tracing and notification.

DDA members can access the module in the infections section of the online library of Dispenser Education Modules
